This is the democracy!
Man of the arrrr
David Hinckley (Daily News)

Johnny Depp must win Best Actor for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl."

Now I don't ordinarily issue this kind of mandate. I'm neither an awards expert nor, honestly, all that impassioned an observer.

This year, though, it's important that Johnny Depp win. No, it's essential. The integrity of the Academy is on the line, because if Depp's performance isn't enough to win, the Academy might as well eliminate the Best Actor category. Or maybe keep the category and give the award every year to Keanu Reeves (what do you mean???).

He was funny, he was droll, he dressed well. He was a pirate of principle and, as the late Everett Dirksen once said, his first principle was flexibility. He was the most fascinating male character on a movie screen last year. Period.
