Mayor blew 7.5M in lost elex cause
By MICHAEL SAUL, DAILY NEWS

The mayor shelled out $7.48 million of his own money on his failed bid to abolish partisan primaries.

"The move to eliminate party primaries was the political equivalent of the film 'Gigli,'" said Forrest Taylor, chief of staff to City Council Speaker Gifford Miller, a likely mayoral candidate.

21 Grams (Rating: 4)

As many critics said, this is very dark and depressing movie. Usually, even depressing movie (like Mystic River) has some funny, laughable parts. This movie doesn't (although still I feel Mystic is more darker). But I found 21 Grams very interesting and memorable.

There are 3 main characters: Sean Penn is a math teacher with a heart problem; Naomi Watts lives with her husband and 2 daughters; Benicio del Toro is a Christian living with his wife. They were living normal(?) lives until an accident happened.

The story is not simple or linear at all. Time goes back and forth, scene goes from one character to another, and finally every piece comes together as one story. You may see its similarity to Memento. Clearly, such intertwined technique is intriguing audience.

Finally, omigod, Naomi Watts!!! (You see it, and you would understand why I am exclaiming.)

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Wild Turkeys Flocking In City
AP, November 26

Alex Calota saw the turkey about five months ago, strutting near his hot dog cart at Riverside Park. Instead of considering the critter for Thanksgiving dinner, Calota dubbed the bird "Giuliani" and began feeding it.

Calota, 50, of Queens, who has been selling hot dogs in Riverside Park for a decade, says Giuliani weighs just over 20 pounds. He had a friend, Calota said, but "the other one don't come any more."

Calota feeds the bird every day he sees him. And he named the bird after former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani because "I respect him" -- the mayor, not the turkey."

Movie Review No.7
Matrix Revolution (Rating: 4)

Since I too much underestimated, I kind of enjoyed the show. Rating may have been 3 if I overexpected. 2nd one was action and chasing movie, while this 3rd one was like Star Wars or Star Trek kind. Less kisses between Neo and Trinity.

This time, 3 battles proceeded at the same time as Neo & Trinity left the ship for Machine World. So team Neo & Trinity, team Morpheus & Niobe (she is hot!), and team Zion fought against machines in each place. It's like LOTR.

The problem is I am getting lost about the characters. I could never remember them because everyone looks having same face (I don't mean too many Agent Smiths!). And more and more new people appeared.

Anyway, I think this was more philosophical than 2nd one.
In Japan, they had earthquakes on 5/26, 7/26, and 9/26 this year. Therefore, it is implicitly suspected that it may happen on 11/26 again... We'll see...

Happy birthday Yumie!!!!!!!!
Your new era has just started:)
People Magazine chose Johnny Depp as the sexiest man alive! He really made me willing to become a pirate.

Another 9 are:
Brad Pitt, Ashton Kutcher (who is he?), George Clooney, Lenny Kravitz (I love Nicole...), Justin Timberlake, Hugh Grant, Russell Crowe (is he sexy??), Hugh Jackman (X-Men!!), Denzel Washington and Colin Farrell (I HATE him!).

How about him?

This is from Al-Jazeera.

The mayor of London has launched a scathing attack on US President George Bush, who has arrived in the UK on a state visit.

Ken Livingstone called Bush the "greatest threat to life on this planet that we've probably ever seen." He told reporters in London, "The policies he is initiating will doom us to extinction."

"The American agenda is sweeping everything before it, and although it's not perfect, the EU is better on environmental issues. It's a less rapacious form of capitalism."

"I don't formally recognise George Bush because he wasn't officially elected. So we're organising an alternative reception for everybody who is not George Bush," Livingstone said.

Bush had queen in stitches
Now, he's Prez on visit
By ELLEN TUMPOSKY (Daily News)

LONDON - The first time George W. Bush met Queen Elizabeth, he told her his cowboy boots were embroidered with "God save the queen."

Bush - who was attending a 1991 state dinner for the queen and her husband, Prince Philip, when his father was President - then added that he was the black sheep of his family.

"Who's yours?" he asked her.

"None of your business," she replied with a smile.

Elf (Rating: 4)

Some of you, who love elves in LOTR, may not be able to stand this elf acted by Will Ferrel. I found his elf kind of cute, but if your image of elf is only Legoras or Arwen, you would be shocked!

Buddy the Elf was born human but raised by Papa Elf in North Pole. One day, he found out he was human, so decided to meet his real dad, who worked in NYC. After he came to NY, the story is a bit predictable considering that that was the first time he saw human life.

Since it's kids movie, it is certainly cheesy. Still, you could feel pure after the show. Besides, it's also X-mas movie featuring lots of Central Park, so now is the best timing. The last thing, if you do not believe in Santa, you shouldn't see it!

NYC Dep. of Health released the
MOST POPULAR BABY NAMES FOR 2002

Among 62,843 girls born in New York City in 2002, Ashley was the most popular girls' name overall, a position held for eleven consecutive years:
1. Ashley, 2. Emily, 3. Kayla, 4. Brianna, 5. Samantha
6. Sarah, 7. Nicole, 8. Jessica, 9.Michelle, 10. Isabella

Since I am always thinking of my daughter's name, this is a good reference. By the way, Jennifer is the 2nd in Hispanic name, Jenny is the 3rd in Asian girl.

Men Want to Know Victoria's Secret
And you thought they didn't appreciate the art of high fashion

By Anne Bratskeir (Newsday)

Ask a local guy what ticket he covets most and you're likely to get one of the following: "Courtside at the Garden," (even during a miserable Knicks season), "box seats behind the Yankee dugout," or "third row on the 50-yard line at Giants Stadium."

Except this week, when men are clamoring for tickets to a fashion show. No, it's not another manifestation of metrosexuality. It's the Victoria's Secret fashion show, set for Thursday night at the Lexington Avenue Armory, an annual event that's less about fashion than, let's be honest, flesh.

The whole sexy shebang is followed with a big, yup, sexy after-party, where the supermodels let loose and champagne flows.

For the rest of the world, there's some slight consolation. The show will be televised on CBS next Wednesday (11/19) from 10 to 11 p.m. (Get tuned!!)

Movie Review No.5
Love Actually (Rating:5)

Don't blame me for my biased rating! I love actually Love Actually not just because I have crush on Keira Knightley, but also because of very heartwarming, funny, and romantic 'stories.' This movie really includes more than 10 love stories. Still, it's not confusing at all unless you tend to forget people's name within no more than 3 minutes. OK, let me list the stories I can recall at this moment.

-UK Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) falls in love with a girl (obviously Monica Lewinsky looking + her beret!!!) who works at his PM Downing Street house.
-A company boss (Professor Snape!), who has a wife (Emma Thompson), is tempted by a girl at his office.
-A guy (NOT ME!) has a crush on a girl (Keira), who has just got married with another guy.
-A boy (10 years old or something) loves his classmate(?), so his stepfather helps him.
-A writer (Colin Firth) fell in love with his Portuguese housekeeper, who cannot speak English.

And there are couple of more small stories. What makes me love this movie is its musical things: a hilarious rocker was singing Xmas song throughout the movie, Hugh Grant was coolly dancing to a music, and climax is Mariah Carey's Xmas song by a little girl. I felt very happy after the movie. Anyway, I don't understand why Mr. Bean was there??

If you want to know about Japanese politics, this is it!

Makeover for Koizumi's opponents
Linda Sieg Reuters
Wednesday, October 29, 2003

TOKYO Do you have dandruff? Bad breath? Are your socks smelly or your nose hairs in need of a trim?

Worried that female support for their party is lagging that for the telegenic Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and his ruling camp before an election, Japan's main opposition party has compiled a 21-page booklet on how to woo women at the polls.

Besides the topics like those above, the guide also includes advice on smiling - important, but avoid forced grins; shaking hands - not too strong, not too limp; and how to sound sincere. "The repeated message from women to politicians is: 'I'm not saying you have to be flashy, but I'd like you to pay more attention to your clothes and appearance and act in a way that wouldn't be embarrassing, even if you go abroad,'" says the guide distributed to opposition Democratic Party candidates as the campaign gears up.

Movie Review No.4
The Human Stain (Rating: 3)

This time, critics were right. Nicole is very great as always, but it is waste of talent. Although I expected, it's kind of gross that Anthony Hopkins are kissing and making love with Nicole. Who said this is one of the Oscar candidates? I think they confused this with Cold Mountain or Hannibal.

Hopkins played professor (looks based on real one), who was born in black family, but whose skin was not dark. He kept telling his wife that his parents were dead so as to hide his race. And one day (after his wife died), he met Nicole (very abruptly!!) and become her boyfriend (,which I still don't understand why!). I wish other guy had played his role...

Hopkins also became friends with a writer acted by Gary Sinise, who keeps me reminded of Tim Russert of Meet the Press (NBC). See: http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&id=1800024193&cf=gen&intl=us
And: http://www.msnbc.com/news/102219.asp?cp1=1

Sorry, the story is not such too simple! If you are very sensitive to people's mind and human relationship, this movie may be interesting you. It's too deep for me though
